You may have noticed that some of our LUMEN products now contain the suffix “+ GF.” In this article, we will discuss this addition to our skincare line and go over the many benefits it provides our products and our clients.
Introducing Kinetin
LUMEN is a line of medical-grade skincare products that are sold exclusively within our online store and through our colleagues at LUX Medical Spa, nestled in the heart of the Low Country in South Carolina. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Carmen Traywick and board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederick Weniger wanted to create truly effective and beneficial products with best-in-class ingredients and without the use of harmful additives such as fragrances or parabens (which have been shown to worsen certain chronic skin conditions such as acne and extreme redness and sensitivity.)
Over the years, the LUMEN line has grown to include a variety of offerings including cleansers, moisturizers, eye area products, brighteners, peel pads, and much more. One of the more recent exciting additions to our line is the growth factor (GF) known as Kinetin.
The Role Kinetin Plays in Your Daily Skincare Regimen
Growth factors are simply groups of proteins that help stimulate the growth of certain tissues and encourage processes that occur naturally in our bodies, but which may have slowed down over time due to age or environmental stress. In short, Kinetin is a plant-based protein and growth factor ingredient that increases moisturization and minimizes signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Specifically, Kinetin improves barrier function within the skin to retain natural moisture levels and promote proper hydration. Our skin’s moisture barrier acts as a sort of armor, and when it becomes compromised (either through exposure to harsh detergents and additives, brought on by changes in our weather and climate, injury, disease, or damage caused by ultraviolet radiation) our skin becomes more susceptible to conditions that cause premature aging and other troublesome issues.
